Car Talk (Part One of Two) Ep.015 Better Conversations on Money and Marriage with Derek and Carrie Olsen

Money, Marriage, and Cars…

Carrie and I started our marriage carless.

Derek and Carrie Olsen Fred Car

We were both surprised by how simple a carless lifestyle can be.

The financial savings were great, but the freedom that came with not owning a car was an unexpected bonus.

Also, learn about Fred, our 95′ Camry that was given to us! (Pic above not actually of Fred, but, close enough.)

Listen to this episode to learn all about how we managed to make it work.

We had a car given to us as well!! We had two vehicles and were each working, which jobs and schedules very different and distant from each other. The car my husband drove had some major issues and we ended up with only one vehicle. My husband was getting rides to work from friends when a friend of ours contacted us about giving us a car. The car was 15 years old at the time, but it is a Honda Accord and it drove, which is more than the other car was doing. They ended up giving it to us, and now, five years later, I still drive it to work!! Loving my 1997 Honda Accord and we are definitely trying to pay it forward. We even want to give towards our friends’ children’s college fund after all our debts are paid so that they can experience how amazing it was to receive a gift like that.

Five years later and you are still driving it, double-awesome!!

Maybe we should start a car giving club?
