Been listening to your podcast. We’re pretty good with money (I used to say great; the adjustment to our mortgage and cost of renovation took all of our sizeable savings for downpayment, etc means that we’re in a different spot than we were two years ago.) Your savings sheet is the reason I might try hard to use your method- that’s attractive to me, splitting it all apart to see what you’ve got, what your goals are.

Couple of topics I’d love feedback on in a future episode or blog or right here in the comments:

    1) how to determine the amounts you set for your savings (overall and broken out into allocations). I thought of that when I listened to the “No More Worky” fund…. we used to save like crazy for our mortgage downpayment and we hardly spent anything because it was coming up; that is not the case now but we’re looking at much more uncertain things … like expanding our family. It costs… some large-ish… amount…

    2) What you should save versus what you should pay on debt. Dave Ramsey says save an emergency fund first then pay all your debt off in a snowball. I find our sensibilities somewhere in between.

Thanks for the great advice on living on one income on the Parenthood Podcast (are they still podcasting? Seems quiet over there… that’s how I found you guys); we’re not quite there but I think I’m going to start debt snowballing with as much of my income as possible. That seems like a great idea. If I can really get into it, which is to be determined, it seems like we can pay off our 20 year mortgage in way less than half the time…

I have one more question about cash for cars but I think I’ll leave it at this. :)
