Spontaneous Planned Giving Ep #020

Spontaneous Planning

Is there a right way and a wrong way to give money away?

Some of the comments on our post about giving away $100,000 mentioned the idea of random giving.

This idea of random giving was interesting to us.

When we first got married, we gave regularly, the same amount each month. It didn’t leave room for us to give spontaneously. As a result, we weren’t able to help out when unexpected giving opportunities came our way.

After about a year we started a line on our budget for unexpected giving. Now we are able to “plan to give spontaneously.”

Is one way better than another?

You wouldn’t randomly or spontaneously save for retirement or eat healthy, so why is giving a random act?

Should giving money away always be planned and structured, or should it be spontaneous?
